Animal rights

NNNOOO! This my second last day at Enrich. Does an animal  have rights? If you said no then, why doesn't an animal have rights? If you said yes then, why do you say that? We talked all about this in P4C today. We talked about all of the rights us humans have and we talked about all the rights that an animal has. We talked a little bit about what humans do to animals. Did you know that rabbits are used to test different types of eye cosmetics. The rabbit's eyelids gets pin open and the producer's put the cosmetic in there eye. I know sad right? Do you every go to a pharmacy to get medication? Well most medication is first tested by animals then tested by humans that offer to test that medicine. So animals have rights too, because if I were an animal and got treated that way I would be in pain and angry because nobody would have done anything to stop  what would have happened. So that's what I did today at P4C

LAST CHANGE OF PLANS

NNNNOOOO!!!! There is only two days left for the year. That means that there is only two days left for me as student for Enrich!!! Anyway back to the positive things I have changed my passion time for the last time I can promise you. I bet you animal lovers will like this... I'm making a movie... About endangered White Bengal Tiger's! This morning I was reading some facts about the trade of tiger body parts, awful! I found out that Hong Kong is the main importer of the tiger body parts, accounting nearly half of it's annual business! :( I am really excited for this movie, I just hope that I get it done in time! Wish me luck.

Passion time: A change of plans

Today at Enrich Cheanna and I decided to change our project for passion time from writing songs and writing a play to designing an outfit. We had so many ideas for all these different outfits, unfortunately  we knew we could only do one so we did a hip hop themed outfit. Cheanna and I didn't know where to start so we went online and we looked at what other hip hopper's are wearing and we got an image of what to do but you'll have to wait and see...                          until next week.                                             BYE!

Sea Shepherd

Today at Enrich a man named Grant came in to tell us all about whaling and protecting whales and other sea animals and also about his experience in saving sea animals in the Antarctic. Grant is a part of a group called Sea Shepherd, Grant talked about all of the whales and sea animals that Sea Shepherd has saved and all the whales the Japanese have hunted down and killed in a year. Grant had a lot of things to say and one of those things were about how the Japanese kill the whales, it's very sad. The Japanese put a hook onto the whales with an explosive device  down their mouth to make the whale die and that will make the whale drown in it's own blood, I know sad, BUT, just to make this even worse they shoot the whales to make sure they're dead. The last thing Grant told us was that they stay out at sea for 90 days and sometimes they don't shower for 20 days. YUCK! I couldn't do that! Here is a picture of a Blue Whale

Passion Time

KIA ORA

Today in Passion Time I decided to continue writing and editing my song. Alana (one of my teachers here at Enrich) showed me how to put music to my song. I had a variety of instruments, feelings of music and styles of music to choose from which was very hard. I decided to start off with an instrument, so my first instrument I clicked on was the piano because my song was kind of slow and it was a love song so I thought that was a good idea. So I clicked on the piano button and then a whole bunch of styles of piano popped up and I said to myself, "WOW,This might take a while".  So it seems all of them were AMAZING but I only chose two and used them as the introduction. I moved on to three others but it was very hard because the music or instruments were either too fast or too slow. That got very frustrating trying to find a piece of music that would fit my song just right but it was so hard, all the instruments and styles of music so many choices but nothing would work. Maybe next week I might find something, wish me luck.

Technology Challenge

I'M BACK!!!!!!!!!

Today here at Enrich we did another technology challenge. Have you ever heard of a man called MacGyver? Well today our technology challenge was to make a piece of equipment that would help MacGyver grab a hammer and a chisel that is two meters away from him. Most of you might say why doesn't MacGyver just grab the hammer and chisel by himself but MacGyver needs the hammer and chisel to break his way out of some new concrete before the concrete dries up, because MacGyver's feet are in concrete!  So today in class we put ourself into groups of three, my group had Kady Cheanna and Me! Our device was good but it wasn't heavy enough! so we didn't win but it was good fun.

Air pollution

Kia ora

Today here at Enrich we watched a clip about Air Pollution. In the clip they were talking about the top ten most polluted cities in the WORLD!  In the class Darryn was surprise that one of China's cities wasn't in the top ten and neither was any American cities. CRAZY RIGHT?. Any way it turns out that all of the top ten most polluted cites were all on the middle east side of the world. Weird right? So the most polluted city in our world today is Ahvaz in Iran at 372 micrograms per micro meter! Anyway that's all from me for now.

Until next week

Today here at Enrich we continued with our environment projects. ( Just so you know i'm in the group making murals to lighten up a place called Wachner place) As I was saying we are getting ready to take our proposal to the the city council of Invercargill. Our proposal is a slideshow of what we want to do to enhance wachner place so we have to make a proposal to present our ideas to the city council, but we only have two weeks left to organize our proposal! It's going to be a very interesting two weeks until next time...

Bull's eye

Today we played another Wilson game called Bull's eye! The way you play is you are in a group of at least four, four hoola hoops and four bean bags. The way you play is you take turns throwing the bean bag until you get the bean bag in the first hoop. Then you go into the next  hoop until you complete  all the hoops the first group finished wins. Today I played in group two, the funny thing about group two was that we came second! How weird is that?

Today...

HI

I'm back and I'm about to crack an egg. Well I've already cracked a little part of an egg outside to make a egg fly. First I made a parachute and then I decorated an egg then I took it outside and tested it and then it didn't go as planed because it cracked. But don't worry it wasn't fully broken, just a few cracks. Anyway that's what I did today. So just before I leave wish me luck because this is my first time writing the email for the day since the day I first started at Enrich. here is a picture of mine and Cheanna's egg at the top.

Today's new experiment

How are you today? Well I feel like I'm the queen of electricity today because we made our very own light bulb. Yes it was challenging but it was very fun. If you would like to know how to make your own light bulb here is how you do it...
First you will need...
At least 8 or more D sized batteries, a small pie tin, a half cut toilet roll, a empty jar, a spring or a hard pencil led or a soft pencil led, tape and wire with alligator clips on both ends. First you tape all 8 batteries together. Secondly you tape your alligator wire onto the roll, a little tip, make sure that the alligator clips are the same way or it won't work. When your done, you tape the roll and  the wire on the pie tin. After you've finished that you put either a spring, a hard pencil lead or a soft pencil lead in the wired clips, then you carefully put the jar over top of it, then you ask someone if they can push the batteries together. While you put the alligator clips on the ends of the batteries and then that is how you make a light bulb. If you want to make things interesting try and add or take away batteries and see what happens. here is a picture of what mine turned out to  be.
Enjoy making your light bulbs.

Elephant toothpaste

Today here at Enrich we made Elephant Toothpaste! I know super awesome but wait how do you make Elephant Toothpaste. Well... I can't tell you! I know sad, but if I tell you,you might try making it and it's dangerous stuff. It's dangerous stuff because there is a ingredent that is poisonous but don't worry no one got hurt. There were alot of cool mixers of colours involved and one didn't work out well. But I loved the experience and I would like to do it again.

The Otepuni River vs The Waihopai Stream

Kia ora

Today at Enrich we filtered water from the Otepuni river & The Waihopai Stream. First of all before I go any further let me just say one thing about the Waihopai Stream DONT have a drink in that disgusting stream! NEVER! Just so you know the Otepuni river has been polluted by rubbish so a word to the wise don't drink from that river either. So today we saw that the Waihopai water was must more ickier & muddier than the Otepuni River. At the top you will see two images the first one is an image of the Otepuni Stream & the second one is an image of the Waihopai .
Until next time

Enviroment

HELLO

Welcome back. I'm so happy to be back here at Enrich! Today we were told our new concept curriculum which is the Enviroment. The first thing we did was we had to talk to each other about what Enviroment means then we got put into groups of three and then we had to write three meanings about the Enviroment, But we HAD to use one dictionary made from paper and we had to use the computer to find two meanings for Enviroment. When we were finished we got together as a class and shared all of our ideas. Anyway it was good to see everyone again.
Until next week,
Bye

The yellow angry bird is almost complete!

Hi
Yeah! Today in talent development we are so close to completing the working out of the yellow angry bird canstruction. Soon we will be able to make the yellow angry bird. So next week there will be a couple of students coming to Enrich from S.I.T to talk to us about the measurements on the boards we need and then we have to get the cans. OBVIOUSLY! Other wise what would we be doing? The last thing we did today was that we had to do was we had to go on the computer and decided how many different colours we need and how many cans of that colour. So that was what we did today and until next week...
see you later!

Kiaora Destiny,
You were in such great form this week! You seemed to really embrace our trip to the wearable arts exhibition.  I enjoyed our discussion at the museum about the different pieces, hearing what you thought was interesting and what didn’t appeal so much.  During our affective workshop you were very self aware of which of the gifted characteristics applied to you.
See you next week!

PASSION TIME PART 1

HOLA...

Today we started what we call here at Enrich    PASSION TIME. So basically we have until after morning tea till lunchtime to research or make something that you really enjoy doing. There are SO many things you can do. Here is a list of many things that some children in the class have decided to do: Movie Making, Clay Sculpting, Story Telling, Writing Novels, Animations, Computer Programming, Game Making & Wearable Arts. I am doing  wearable arts but you can't see anything that I have made because it's a secret, I'm going show you next time in part 2. HAVE A FABULOUS DAY AND UNTIL NEXT TIME BYE.

Wearable Arts

TALOFA!

Today I'm here to the you about Wearable Arts. Some people might say what is wearable arts? Well that's easy wearable arts is CLOTHING. Now I'm going to tell you about why we went to see the wearable arts & the story behind some of the art. Today Alana said to the class: "We're going to the Museum to look at some wearable art to help you with our concept curriculum which is perspective." After that when went for a walk  through town and within 5-10 minutes we were at the Museum! When we got to the wearable arts exhibition I was amazed in two outfits especially. One of them was called the firebird, I like this one because it had a different varieties of colours like pink and an amazing blues and baby greens, it looked beautiful! The second one was made by Emma Whiteside and the title was Queen Adelaide. I found her dress appealing because of the effort and time put in to making it. Did you know that when making the cooper fans on Queen Adelaide's dress took Emma maybe just over 300 hours!!! I know that's ... WOW!
Here are the picutres injoy until next time...BYE

 This is Queen Adelaide.

 This is the Firebird.

My up date on today

Hi

Hello everyone. Today I'm going to tell you about the Wilson game that we played today.

Today we played the same game we played at the start of the year.
Let me tell you how to play. Firstly there are two groups (the class split into the two groups.) After that both groups were given five tennis balls. After that we were given ten seconds to pass the ball around BUT!!! we weren't allowed to pass it to the person right next to you & if the ball dropped then that would be counted as a drop ball.  At the end of 10 seconds we counted how many balls we still had and hadn't dropped. My team won by two points because the other team had  seven points & my team had nine points.

That was today's Wilson game, until next time...

I'm BACK!!!

Yeah I'm back for a very exciting year at Enrich  2012!!!

So good old Enrich. Oh i'm just so touched to be back.

Let me take you through the day I have had today.

Well today we started off with a game of chess. I played my most challenging opponent ( Well my most challenging opponent so far.)  Any who  I played the one the only Cheanna Henderson Blair. ( It would pay to remember that this year, because you'll be hearing alot about her this year.) So as I was saying the game with Cheanna was very... very... well let's just say it was very hard going.  AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!   I demand a rematch. I know what your thinking. Cheanna has won. Well your wrong. We were a draw. That was annoying me but I had to be a good sport and say "good game Cheanna." Then Cheanna and I went & did Spanish.   At Spanish we learnt how to say hello, goodbye & see you soon. We also learnt how to write the words as well.
